Empowering the Next Generation of Global Citizens

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Chapter at the University of Embu. This milestone was solidified through the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Embu and the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).

This strategic partnership is more than just a formal agreement; it is a collaborative commitment to transforming the University into a model institution and a regional leader in Global Citizenship Education (GCED).

Key Pillars of the Partnership

The collaboration is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and sustainable practice through:

  • Joint Resource Mobilization: Leveraging collective strengths to fund impactful sustainability projects.
  • Capacity Building: Tailored training programs for both faculty and students to integrate ESD into research and curriculum.
  • Student Fellowship & Exchange: Facilitating university-sponsored entry into the SDGs Fellowship Programme and providing opportunities for global exchange programs focused on GCED.
  • Policy Advancement: Working alongside KEMI to influence and implement ESD policy frameworks within the Kenyan education sector.

Visionary Leadership and Collective Effort

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our partners and internal leadership.

“We remain committed to partnering with institutions that recognize the importance of nurturing globally conscious citizens—individuals who think globally while innovating sustainable social, economic, and environmental solutions within their local contexts.”

We extend our deepest appreciation to:

  • Prof. Daniel Mugendi (Vice-Chancellor, University of Embu): For his visionary leadership and commitment to institutional excellence.
  • Dr. Odondo (CEO, KEMI): For his wise counsel and steadfast partnership in advancing ESD policy in Kenya.
  • Prof. Kenya: For her exceptional stewardship during the launch ceremony.
  • Dr. Rono, the Legal Team, Faculty, and Students: Whose collective efforts and passion for sustainability turned this vision into a reality.

Looking Ahead

As we embark on this journey, the University of Embu aims to equip every learner with the competencies required to tackle global challenges through locally grounded, innovative solutions. By fostering an environment where “thinking globally” meets “acting locally,” we are ensuring that our graduates are not just professionals, but stewards of a sustainable future.

Together, we are accelerating the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
